Carolina Panthers quarterbacks

While much has been said about the Carolina Panthers quarterback room this offseason, that’s all it has been, talk. The room has not changed at all from 2020 for better or worse.

Teddy Bridgewater certainly had his well-documented struggles last season but at this point, he is still the player set to lead Carolina into 2021. The former first-round pick showed promise to start the year but heavily regressed as the season went on. While injuries may have played a part in that, it still left the team trying to trade for a better option.

Going 0-8 in game-tying or winning drives last season didn’t instill much confidence in Bridgewater going forward and his tendency against the deep ball did not help things either. Coming from Cam Newton who was a high-risk, high-reward player, the former Louisville standout and his game management style was a bit of a shock to the system.

The backup situation is not much better but isn’t necessarily a place of need either with former XFL star P.J. Walker leading the battle going into next season. While it isn’t the consistency or security that some teams possess, it can work in a pinch and that’s all you need from a backup anyway.

Grade: B-

Barring a blockbuster trade or a moving up in the draft, the Panthers are going into 2021 with a consistent, and sometimes disappointing, quarterback room.
