The Carolina Panthers’ current QB intentions

Although Scott Fitterer and Matt Rhule said all the right things where Teddy Bridgewater was concerned during their pressers earlier this month, it would take a brave man to predict he’s the man to lead the Carolina Panthers moving forward.

Going 0-8 on game-winning or tying drives is something that separates the great quarterbacks from the good. So if the Panthers want to enter the playoff picture at the earliest possible opportunity, then Bridgewater might not be the guy for them.

They have made no secret of their desire to launch a bombshell move to acquire Deshaun Watson from the Houston Texans, although Carolina might need to play the waiting game considering the civil suits the signal-caller is about to deal with.

If this fails, then acquiring someone from the 2021 NFL Draft seems to be the best way to go. The Panthers went in full force to Trey Lance’s pro day at North Dakota State and were no doubt impressed by what they saw, with Justin Fields another realistic option if the New York Jets take Zach Wilson out of BYU as expected.

Carolina will need to move up and take their signal-caller of choice in all likelihood. This potential scenario would probably mean Bridgewater is still on the roster in 2021, albeit with a very short leash.
