Round No. 7 (Pick No. 240)

LaBryan Ray – DT (Alabama)

The Carolina Panthers have a stacked group of pass-rushers who are capable of making a difference. However, they could use another big body on the defensive line interior following the departures of Kawann Short and Zach Kerr.

LaBryan Ray comes with some significant injury concerns and isn’t going to blow you away with pass-rushing prowess, the Panthers don’t need this from him with all their weapons on the line of scrimmage. Where he excels – in run stopping – is exactly why the Alabama standout should be on the shortlist with a late-round flier.

Round No. 7 (Pick No. 241)

Tarron Jackson – DE (Coastal Carolina)

At least from the outside looking in, Tarron Jackson’s solid production for Coastal Carolina over the last four seasons makes him an enticing prospect late in the draft. It’s hard not to be impressed by his physique and this is matched by some lofty numbers that should ensure he hears his name called on day three.

With 24.5 sacks and 42 tackles for loss during his career, Jackson has a lot going for him. His effort on the field is first class and he showed up to the Senior Bowl in supreme condition, which really caught the eye.

Providing this weight – believed to be 260 pounds – can be maintained once Jackson gets into a professional environment, then slotting him on an edge rush that includes Brian Burns, Haason Reddick, and Yetur Gross-Matos could be a shrewd move.
