Could the Carolina Panthers look close to home for a new defensive tackle in the form of NC State lineman Alim McNeill?

It comes as no surprise that depth is relatively thin at defensive tackle where the Carolina Panthers are concerned. They do have a stud in Derrick Brown who has the potential to be an anchor on defense for the next decade. But the departures of Kawann Short, Zach Kerr, and Efe Obada leave things a little scarce in the way of options.

Bravvion Roy showed some promise after arriving as a sixth-round pick from Baylor, with free-agent signing Morgan Fox set to replace Obada’s three-technique abilities in obvious pass-rushing situations. However, the Panthers will be on the lookout for a more stereotypical interior lineman that has the potential to slot alongside and become a long-term partner for Brown sooner rather than later.

If they choose to go down the 2021 NFL Draft route, then they won’t have to look far for a potential recruit.

Alim McNeill is a player that has a lot going for him. The North Carolina State standout seems to fit the mold of what Matt Rhule is trying to install on his roster and depending on how the draft plays out, it might be a risk worth taking on Day 2.

Carolina has other needs that should rightfully be addressed first. They are exploring the possibility of a potential franchise quarterback, the desire for a long-term left tackle who can provide immediate assistance is obvious, and the Panthers could also use a top cornerback prospect to slot opposite Donte Jackson.

With that being said, there are still plenty of options available on the cheap in free agency thanks to the current climate. So providing a veteran or two is acquired before the draft, then someone like McNeill comes into play.
