4 prospects who could take Christian McCaffrey to new heights in 2021
By Dean Jones
Deonte Brown – OG (Alabama)
Even though there are some obvious problems and worries when it comes to Deonte Brown, there is no disputing the fact that if the Carolina Panthers decided to bring him on board, it would help Christian McCaffrey enormously. The former Alabama guard was a brute force on the interior for the Crimson Tide on their way to another national championship triumph, which was followed by a Senior Bowl week that came with mixed reviews.
Brown was inconsistent in front of Matt Rhule and Carolina’s coaching staff, which might mean they’ll go in a different direction with this being such a strong draft class for offensive linemen. However, his dominance in running situations throughout his college career simply cannot be ignored.
At 6-foot-3 and 364 pounds, Brown was capable of throwing opposing defensive tackles around like rag dolls most of the time. This will obviously get harder at the next level, but his exceptional frame is something that is really difficult to get around.
One area that represents arguably the most concern where Brown is concerned is his weight. This will need to be monitored closely by whatever team takes him on, but he handled this well for the most part in college and even more scrutiny in the NFL means the prospect would be fully aware of the little margin for error.
Having Brown opening up holes for McCaffrey is an enticing proposition. As we’ve seen before from the All-Pro, all he needs is the slightest gap to gain substantial yardage.
