5 return specialists the Panthers could pick in the 2021 NFL Draft
By David Giroux
Rondale Moore – WR (Purdue)
The first prospect to look at is the electrifying Rondale Moore. He might be on the small side at 5-foot-7 and 181 pounds. But is one of the premier playmakers in this year’s draft with the ball in his hands.
Moore won the Paul Hornung Award as the nation’s most versatile player as a true freshman for Purdue and was consensus first-team All-American as an all-purpose weapon. Injuries limited him over the last few years but the prospect showed he was one of college football’s best punt and kick returners.
Moore might be undersized but he is strong, competitive, elusive, and looks like a running back with the ball in his hands. Remind you of another Moore on the Panthers? He is twitchy and can make people miss, exactly what has been missing in Carolina’s return game.
Lance Zierlein of NFL.com projects that Moore will be able to return punts and kicks from day one as a pro. He is a wildcard due to his problems with drops, and scouts may not love his size.
This is going to cause Moore to most likely drop in the draft, as he is currently projected to go mid-to-late second round.
Getting Moore in this range would be a steal for the Carolina Panthers due to his upside and playmaking ability. He would not only become the day one kick and punt returner but would also help fill the void in the slot left by Curtis Samuel.
Who wouldn’t love a third Moore in Carolina’s receiving room this year?
