Scott Fitterer is trying to build the Legion of Boom 2.0.

New Carolina Panthers general manager Scott Fitterer was key in building one of the greatest secondaries of all time, the Legion of Boom. When he was with the Seattle Seahawks as director of college scouting, the respected figure helped draft Earl Thomas and Richard Sherman.

It’s almost like Fitterer has done this before.

Currently, the Panthers aren’t close to replicating this in Carolina. But taking young talent like Jaycee Horn gets them a whole lot closer.

They’ve also made moves in the secondary this offseason, like signing former Pro Bowler A.J. Bouye in free agency, although he will be suspended for the first two games of the campaign.

Carolina already has young studs in the secondary like Jeremy Chinn and Donte Jackson, but much more was needed other than the star duo if the Panthers wanted to make further strides and possibly reach the postseason in 2021.

A Chinn, Jackson, and Horn trio is something that’ll no doubt be fun to watch when competitive action rolls around once again.

Fitterer has only made good moves since joining Carolina and has a good track record with evaluating college prospects. This gives confidence in Horn, and for the first time in a long while, there is a good chance the Panthers’ secondary can become a strength, not a weakness.
