Grading picks from an incredible draft Day 2 for the Carolina Panthers
By Dean Jones
Terrace Marshall Jr. – Carolina Panthers WR
- Round No. 2 (Pick No. 59)
Wide receiver may not have been the biggest need for the Carolina Panthers heading into the 2021 NFL Draft, but that did not stop them from taking Terrace Marshall Jr. in the second round after a couple of moves back. The prospect spent time working with Joe Brady on the Tigers during their national championship-winning campaign in 2019 and he represents extremely high value at this juncture.
Some analysts had Marshall going in the mid-to-late first round, such is the talent at his disposal. So for the Panthers to snap him up at No. 59 represents a shrewd bit of business.
Marshall is a big-bodied receiver that has enough explosiveness to go down the field, with his ability to get open quickly across the middle another eye-catching trait to his game that won’t have gone noticed by Carolina’s scout team.
Adding Marshall to a receiving room that also consists of D.J. Moore, Robby Anderson, David Moore, and running back Christian McCaffrey is a mouth-watering prospect. The player should get a ton of one-on-one opportunities and his potential to make an immediate impression is there for all to see.
Grade – A+
This might not have been high on the Panthers’ list of priorities. But Marshall offers something a little bit different to what they already possess in the passing game and it gives quarterback Sam Darnold another prominent weapon to call upon. A home run hit.
