3 reasons the Panthers should call Bobby McCain immediately
By Dean Jones
This might be the Carolina Panthers’ biggest need
Providing the likes of Brady Christensen and potentially Deonte Brown can solidify the offensive line in 2021 and beyond, the safety spot next to Jeremy Chinn is arguably the biggest need remaining for the Carolina Panthers.
Bobby McCain is still young enough at 27-years-old to be considered a long-term option if his first season with the organization works out. So bringing him on board could be yet another shrewd bit of business by the front office.
One only has to look at Carolina’s struggles in this area of the field in 2020 to see just how much of a detrimental effect it can have. Putting Chinn in his preferred position is going to wonders for the secondary and if the Panthers also managed to get their hands on McClain, the sky is the limit.
Press coverage should be much improved next season with a healthy Donte Jackson and the arrival of Jaycee Horn. Fifth-round pick Keith Taylor Jr. also excels in this area, so if everything clicks into place right away, then this might just take the pressure of Chinn and whoever is starting alongside him.
McCain still has plenty left in the tank, of that there is little doubt. Whether this is something on Carolina’s radar or not remains to be seen, but they’ll have to be quick if they want to secure his services.
