Dan Arnold – Carolina Panthers TE

Finding an adequate replacement for Greg Olsen was something the Carolina Panthers failed to do last season. Their decision to let the prolific veteran go in free agency was a mistake in hindsight, which was largely down to the poor production of Ian Thomas and Chris Manhertz in his absence,

Manhertz is no longer with the team after joining the Jacksonville Jaguars in free agency. Thomas remains on the roster, but for how much longer remains to be seen considering the Panthers would save around $2 million by releasing him ahead of time.

Getting more consistent production in the passing game from the tight end spot will be crucial to Carolina’s chances moving forward. Sam Darnold needs a security blanket across the middle to get him out of trouble when pressure comes his way, so the addition of Dan Arnold could make a significant difference with a smooth transition to a different environment.

Arnold has previous experience working with Joe Brady from their time together at the New Orleans Saints, which should serve him well. However, there will be no margin for error with Thomas still fancying his chances and the presence of intriguing rookie Tommy Tremble, who could end up being the complete package with a little more refinement to his pass-catching skills.

After bringing in 31 receptions from 45 targets for 438 receiving yards and four touchdowns for the Arizona Cardinals in 2020 – the best stats of his career by some margin – there is plenty of reasons to be encouraged for further growth in Carolina.
