Make another trade

Should Sam Darnold bomb out in 2021 following his switch to the Carolina Panthers, then it might force the organization to explore the trade market once again in pursuit of finally getting someone that can fill the quarterback position long-term.

Obviously, this is the worst-case scenario for Carolina, whose decision-makers appear highly confident in Darnold finally making the most out of his skill set with an embarrassment of riches in the passing game and the NFL’s best dual-threat running back alongside him in the backfield.

The Panthers haven’t been afraid to cut ties with their quarterbacks if they think it will benefit the franchise. This ruthless approach might not be the best way to go about things, but going bold next year if Darnold doesn’t work out is a realistic proposition.

Much will depend on whether Deshaun Watson’s legal issues are resolved by this point.

Carolina made no secret of their desire to acquire the former Clemson standout from the Houston Texans earlier this offseason. Should he become available and eligible to play, then it wouldn’t be the biggest shock in the world to see the Panthers make another bid.

There are some doubts about Darnold credentials. But the same cannot be said for Watson providing everything checks out away from the gridiron.

Others who might be on the hitlist include Aaron Rodgers or Russell Wilson, although both would represent a pipedream at this juncture.
