Which Carolina Panthers players could get cut without taking a snap ahead of the 2021 season?

This is always a nervous time of year for those on the fringes. Players began their fight for depth chart position at rookie minicamp and voluntary OTAs in recent weeks, which are swiftly followed by training camp as the Carolina Panthers go back to Wofford College following a year away due to COVID-19.

There are some big decisions for those in power to make before the Panthers take the field for their Week 1 opener against the New York Jets at Bank of America Stadium. A game that is taking on far more significance following Carolina’s move to rescue quarterback Sam Darnold from the confines of MetLife Stadium after a torrid three years.

While Darnold’s status as the No. 1 option – at least for now – is not in question, some are already nervously looking over their shoulders as Carolina looks to put the right sort of pieces in place to progress on the field next time around.

With this in mind, we picked out five Panthers players who might be cut without taking a snap this offseason.

Caraun Reid – Carolina Pantrhers DT

Caraun Reid is a relative newcomer to the Panthers this offseason, so it would be remiss of the coaching staff not to have a good look at the player during training camp.

However, it would be a huge shock if he was able to make his way up the depth chart considering the options already available in Carolina.

Reid has bounced around the league a lot since entering the pros in 2014. He played seven games for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2020, earning a creditable 66.6 grade from Pro Football Focus as a result of his efforts.

He is a huge body that is difficult to move off the block. But the task awaiting Reid at training camp is a monumental one.
