Aaron Monteiro – Carolina Panthers OL

The case surrounding Aaron Monteiro is a curious one.

The offensive lineman is clearly highly thought of by the Carolina Panthers as a development project. But there will soon come a time when push comes to shove regarding his aspirations with the franchise.

Monteiro was around the team plenty in 2020 as a member of the practice squad. The former Boston College standout must have gained a tremendous amount from this experience and if he takes this into training camp, it could make all the difference.

The Panthers weren’t going to sit around and wait on the off chance a player like Monteiro could make some astonishing strides. They brought in a wealth of different options in a bid to improve protection, which will be crucial to Sam Darnold’s chances of reigniting his career in Carolina.

These new arrivals only demote Monteiro further down the pecking order.

Unless he stamps his authority on the team and performs well during scrimmages and any time he sees on the field during the preseason, his chances of playing a competitive down in the regular season are bleak.

Perhaps the Panthers will stash Monteiro on the practice squad once again if they feel he has something to offer. But they now have other avenues they could go down in this regard should the player display any signs of regression.
