Become a leader for the Carolina Panthers on defense

Brian Burns took on the mantle of defensive leader of the Carolina Panthers midway through the 2020 season, which did not go unnoticed by head coach Matt Rhule. This is something that the player takes extremely seriously within a group that has lost almost every established locker room presence over the last two years.

Being a leader is much more than just getting it done on the field. Burns has all that to come, but it’s been telling to see the defensive end assist in any way possible during voluntary OTAs and mandatory minicamp despite not being at full strength following a clean-up procedure this offseason.

Instead of taking time out to relax, Burns has been on the field in a red shirt guiding his teammates, providing them with anything they need and on hand to lend advice to younger members of the roster during their important period of transition.

It would be a big surprise if Burns wasn’t made a team captain for the 2021 season. His influence has grown with every passing year and the youth direction transpiring within Carolina means there is plenty of responsibility on his shoulders to perform and lead a talented, hungry group of individuals.

If Burns can do this effectively, then it will only enhance his growing reputation.
