One area that does have some concern in terms of depth where the Carolina Panthers are concerned is the safety position. Jeremy Chinn and Juston Burris are solidified as the starting duo heading into training camp, but what occurs behind them is still relatively unknown.

Hopes are high for Sam Franklin, who made a notable contribution despite being an undrafted free agent in 2020. Myles Hartsfield could also play on the backend thanks to his eye-catching versatility, with J.T. Ibe also starting off Carolina’s offseason program in encouraging fashion.

Less is known about the prospect of Jalen Julius, who turned out 38 times in five seasons at Ole Miss before graduating in 2019. He went undrafted last year before signing with the Kansas City Chiefs, an experience that didn’t end up coming with a roster spot.

Whether Julius can make a better go of things in Carolina remains to be seen. Nobody can deny it’s a long shot, so if another potential alternative becomes of interest then the safety might be sacrificed before training camp.

The Panthers have proven they are willing to do whatever it takes in pursuit of making this team more competitive in 2021 and beyond. General manager Scott Fitterer is clearly not a man to sit on his hands and wait for things to develop, so it’s a fluid situation that everyone associated with the franchise should constantly monitor.
