5 Panthers players who need to become alphas at 2021 training camp
By Dean Jones
Donte Jackson – Carolina Panthers CB
One player that cannot afford to get complacent next season is Donte Jackson. The cornerback left a lasting impression over the final few games of 2020 and providing there are no further frustrations on the injury front, the former second-round pick could be set for a career year at just the right time.
Jackson has far more help around him when competitive action begins. The Carolina Panthers used the No. 8 overall selection on Jaycee Horn, spent a fifth-rounder on Keith Taylor Jr., and also picked up experienced veteran A.J. Bouye in free agency.
All this will benefit Jackson more than most. If he can also make some improvements, then the Panthers should have a top unit in coverage for Phil Snow to call upon.
There promises to be some healthy competition at camp between Horn and Jackson at camp. Two potential studs that have that alpha role in their sights.
This promises to be a fascinating element of camp and something that’ll help the Panthers when it’s time for competitive action to resume.
Jackson has the chance to make some serious money for himself in the coming months on the final year of his contract, so how preparations go at Wofford College will be crucial for the LSU product.
The player has all the tools needed to be a top corner. But staying injury-free will be Jackson’s main priority in 2021.
