Spencer Brown – Carolina Panthers RB

Considering what was expected of Spencer Brown when he arrived in undrafted free agency, for the running back to still be in contention for a roster spot at this stage is a fantastic achievement. The UAB product has grown in stature with every passing week and his performance against the Pittsburgh Steelers left one last impression on the coaching staff ahead of the final cuts.

Brown was assured with the football in his hands, getting 11 touches, and rushing for 57 yards and one touchdown. His patience waiting for gaps to develop caught the eye and he had the conviction to attack these holes in pursuit of gaining significant yardage.

Christian McCaffrey and Chuba Hubbard are locked in as the top two players at the position. However, with Reggie Bonnaofon and Rodney Smith missing a considerable period of time and Darius Clark already released, Brown now has a realistic shot at making the team.

This would be anything beyond his wildest dreams after going largely overlooked during the draft evaluation process. Brown has worked exceptionally hard to put himself in this position and if it does end up with a spot, he’ll undoubtedly deserve it.

If not, then Brown is an obvious candidate for the practice squad. But his production during the preseason won’t have gone unnoticed by other teams across the league.
