87. 1 PM ET. 1-0. 15. FOX. Sunday, September 19. 1-0. Panthers

The Carolina Panthers are aiming to start their 2021 season with a 2-0 record, with their NFC South rival New Orleans Saints standing in the way this afternoon at Bank of America Stadium. This should be a better indicator as to where Matt Rhule’s men are in terms of any potential playoff ambitions, but hopes are definitely high following an opening day victory over the New York Jets.

If Week 1 was a smooth route into the season, this Sunday promises to be a much sterner test. The Saints are coming into the game on the back of a sensational win over the Green Bay Packers, which was made all the more impressive considering the change in location and to the team’s preparations thanks to the devastation of Hurricane Ida.

Carolina should get better as the season goes on. This is a young team with some outstanding talent that displayed encouraging signs against the Jets, but some problems need to be worked out in the weeks and months ahead if the Panthers want to truly progress after two consecutive 5-11 campaigns.

It’ll be a fascinating matchup between two old foes. One that could very well shape Carolina’s 2021 season.

Panthers Injury Report vs Saints Week 2

Carolina has a clean bill of health in Week 2. Taylor Moton and DaQuan Jones were limited in practice on Thursday and Friday, but the influential duo don’t have an injury designation for the contest.

This could mean a competitive debut for rookie wide receiver Shi Smith out of South Carolina, who could be tasked with kick return responsibilities providing he’s recovered enough from a shoulder problem suffered during the preseason.

That is not the case with the Saints, who are dealing with some significant injury problems and also have a number of assistant coaches missing who are currently going through COVID-19 protocols.

The following New Orleans players are out in Week 2:

  • Kwon Alexander – LB
  • Marcus Davenport – DE
  • Chase Hansen – LB
  • Erik McCoy – C
  • Pete Werner – LB

The following Saints players are listed as questionable for Week 2:

  • C.J. Gardner-Johnson – DB
  • Tanoh Kpassagnon – DE
  • Marshon Lattimore – CB
  • P.J. Williams – DB

Odds, Spread, Over/Under & Betting Pick Week 2

WynnBET’s Week 2 NFL odds have the Saints favored by 3.0 points on the road. The Panthers and quarterback Sam Darnold need to overcome a New Orleans team that’s riding on the crest of a wave despite missing some key men for their first divisional clash of the season.

The oddsmakers at WynnBET have set the over/under at 44.5. Anyone wishing to bet Carolina on the money line can get them at +150 (bet $100 to win $150).

Considering how many top players are set to miss the game, this represents a good chance for the Panthers to really stake their claim. We are predicting a 24-21 victory for the home team in a contest that might go down to the wire.
