Carolina Panthers’ wake-up call comes early

The Carolina Panthers weren’t getting ahead of themselves despite a 3-0 record to start the season. Even if some of the team’s fanbase completely changed their perception of what they could accomplish after such a small sample size.

If that was the case, then Week 4 at the Dallas Cowboys was a huge wake-up call.

Although things couldn’t have gone much better for the Panthers through three weeks, this game told us plenty about how much more still needs to be done before Carolina can realistically enter the Super Bowl discussion.

A humbling experience. But one that probably came at a good time.

If some players were dreaming big, this would have brought them back down to earth. Which isn’t a bad thing by any stretch.

Those speaking after the game seemed frustrated – and rightfully so. But they all appeared determined to bounce back at the earliest opportunity and ensure minimal momentum is lost.

The next four or five games for the Panthers are critical and winnable in equal measure.

If they from these games with not much in the way of damage, then it’ll do their chances of playoff football in 2021 the world of good and represent a significant improvement in Year 2 of Matt Rhule’s tenure.
