Carolina Panthers should switch Moton and Christensen

With Cam Erving out through injury, the Carolina Panthers made a bold move to switch Taylor Moton to the left tackle position and install rookie Brady Christensen on the right in Week 5. For all the problems in pass protection on the interior, the tackle tandem performed well overall in the face of some substantial pressure.

This was a strange move to make when one considers that Moton and Christensen played on the opposite sides throughout their careers both in college and the NFL. It might not seem like much, but completely shifting body poise from one side to the next is a huge complication and one that could have been avoided.

Whether the Panthers go with this formula against the Minnesota Vikings or change things around once again remains to be seen. Christensen was an elite blindside protector for Zach Wilson at BYU, so putting him in a position where he’s more comfortable despite concerns about his arm length could be beneficial.

After all, Rashawn Slater’s arm size came into question during the 2021 draft evaluation process and he’s lighting it up for the Los Angeles Chargers.

Wherever Moton and Christensen play, they’ll need to be at the top of their respective games. The Vikings boast two dominant edge rushers in Danielle Hunter and Everson Griffen, who’ll be looking forward to this one judging by what we’ve seen from Carolina’s offensive line of late.
