Carolina Panthers avoid QB temptation in 7-round 2022 NFL mock draft
By Dean Jones
Sam Williams – DE/OLB (Ole Miss)
Generating pressure hasn’t been much of a problem for the Carolina Panthers this season. Phil Snow’s defensive front has been nothing short of outstanding so far, but with players like Haason Reddick, Marquis Haynes, and DaQuan Jones out of contract, picking up a high upside prospect during the 2022 draft wouldn’t be the worst idea in the world.
Sam Williams has been a solid if not spectacular performer during his career. His production for Ole Miss in 2021 so far has been pleasing, with the edge rusher recording five sacks in as many games thanks to his impressive explosiveness and tireless work ethic.
Williams is a fun guy to watch. He possesses a strong physical frame and a high motor for good measure, which are traits that scouts look for in any edge defender coming out of college.
In just 27 college games so far, Williams has racked up 22.5 sacks and 15 tackles for loss. Providing he adds to his pass-rushing repertoire once the player gets to the next level, someone is going to have a highly productive individual on their hands.
There is more room for growth where Williams is concerned. But his athletic ability coupled with the right attitude makes him a very intriguing proposition at this stage.
