Crunch time has officially arrived for the Carolina Panthers. Their Week 8 game at the Atlanta Falcons will tell us plenty about just what fight this roster and the coaching staff actually has, with a four-game losing slump casting an extreme cloud on the organization after such a promising start.
The Panthers cannot afford to go out with a whimper in an NFC South divisional matchup. Atlanta is in the midst of a good run and seems to be on a completely different trajectory to Carolina, which is a far cry from the way things began in 2021 for both teams.
Put up for or shut up. That’s the message and one Carolina has to respond to in a positive fashion.
Losing is all part of the business. But it’s the way Carolina fell flat on their face at the New York Giants which was so unacceptable and unless things improve, then another season in mediocrity or worse awaits.
Will Stephon Gilmore play in Week 8?
Stephon Gilmore was kept out of Week 7 after the team decided he needed a little more time before making his official debut. The All-Pro cornerback has come through another week of practice unscathed, so there is a solid chance he sees the field in some capacity against the Falcons.
Considering how much firepower Atlanta has at its disposal, Gilmore’s return to fitness couldn’t be coming at a better time. He has been activated off the physically unable to perform list and is set to see the field for the first time in Carolina.
Panthers Injury Report at Falcons Week 8
Carolina could be getting some key men back in some capacity this weekend. We’ve already touched on the prospect of Stephon Gilmore making his official debut, but head coach Matt Rhule is also hopeful Shaq Thompson can make a return.
Here is the official Panthers injury report for Week 8:
- CB C.J. Henderson – questionable (shoulder)
- OLB Shaq Thompson – questionable (foot)
- Terrace Marshall Jr. – out (concussion)
- DL Darryl Johnston – out (hamstring)
The Falcons have no such problems, with cornerback A.J. Terrell given no designation for the contest after recovering sufficiently from a concussion.
Odds, Spread, Over/Under & Betting Pick Week 8
WynnBET’s Week 8 NFL odds have Carolina as 3.0-point underdogs on the road. The money line odds are +145 for the Panthers (bet $100 to win $145), with the Falcons currently sitting at -165 (bet $165 to win $100).
The over/under set by WynnBET is 47.0, which is available at -110 (bet $110 to win $100) whichever way you choose to go.
It’s hard to project Carolina wins or covers the spread in their current form. So the Falcons +3.0 is the smart wager to make.
