Carolina Panthers Pick No. 59

  • Original 2021 pick: Terrace Marshall Jr. – WR

After trading down twice to acquire more selections, the Carolina Panthers finally pulled the trigger on a second-round prospect with Terrace Marshall Jr. at No. 59 overall. The wide receiver enjoyed a fantastic college career at LSU and was seen as a high-value selection at the time, although things haven’t gone according to plan so far.

Marshall has been an afterthought in the passing game and a concussion earlier this season didn’t help. To make matters worse, the wideout was a healthy scratch in Carolina’s loss at the Miami Dolphins, which was another real blow in the short term.

The Panthers need to do a better job of getting Marshall involved. But wide receiver wasn’t considered a position of need at the time and those in power should have avoided luxury in pursuit of solidifying other areas.

If they went back, then Creed Humphrey would be strongly considered. The center has been sensational for the Kansas City Chiefs since entering the league, giving up just one sack and three penalties en route to an exceptional 90.1 grade from Pro Football Focus.

Carolina did have Matt Paradis under contract, but much like the situation with Rashawn Slater, Humphrey could have been a 10-year starter for the Panthers and offered immediate assistance for good measure.
