Carolina Panthers Pick No. 70

Paulson Adebo – CB

  • Original 2021 pick: Brady Christensen – OL

The situation with Brady Christensen and the Carolina Panthers is a bizarre one. Matt Rhule seems extremely reluctant to put the BYU product into the starting lineup consistently, with his decision to install Dennis Daley on the blindside instead being one of the more bemusing moves made by the head coach this season.

We just don’t know how good Christensen is or isn’t right now. That is mind-boggling considering there are just five games to go and the Panthers traded up to acquire him in the first place.

In this scenario, the Panthers don’t need to worry about that with Rashawn Slater and Creed Humphrey. Now they can address the secondary issues and although Jaycee Horn is long gone, someone like Paulson Adebo looks to have a solid NFL future ahead of him based on his rookie efforts.

Adebo was taken by the New Orleans Saints and already has two interceptions to his name. There have been some errors – which isn’t unexpected considering how first-year cornerbacks tend to struggle more often than not – but the overall sample size indicates he’ll be a successful starter for a long time.

This might have been the smarter avenue to go down for Carolina. Especially considering how torrid the protection has been for three starting quarterbacks in 2021.
