Zane Gonzalez – Carolina Panthers K

Zane Gonzalez has been on a little slide in the last two weeks through no fault of his own. The Carolina Panthers didn’t attempt a field goal against the Washington Football Team and the lack of ball movement at the Miami Dolphins led to only one extra point kick and one field goal attempt.

Overall, Gonzalez looks like this front office’s best offseason decision by far. Coming into this game, he’s made 20 of 22 field-goal attempts and 19 of 20 extra-point efforts.

Gonzalez had the best fantasy performance of the season (17 points) in the last outing against the Atlanta Falcons. This isn’t to say that he will have another career day, but Atlanta has allowed a whopping 27.7 points per game this season, so he will get opportunities.

The Panthers’ defense currently sits near the middle of the pack in fantasy with a solid average of almost seven points per game so far. While it may seem to be trending downward, there are a couple of positives.

Carolina is still top-two in total yards allowed and passing yards conceded per game, they’ve gone six straight games with multiple sacks, and five straight with multiple quarterback takedowns and a forced turnover.

While Atlanta’s defense is giving up a lot of points, their offense hasn’t scored many either. Since Week 10, the Falcons have been outscored 112-41.

Add in Atlanta has given up more points per game to defenses in fantasy than any other team and you have a recipe for the Panthers defense to have a very good outing.
