John Miller – Carolina Panthers OG

It was surprising to see John Miller return to the Carolina Panthers in 2021.

The move had a lot to do with the team-friendly deal accepted by the offensive lineman in an uncertain financial climate. But from a performance standpoint, there was nothing to suggest he could build on a very indifferent first season with the franchise.

Miller has struggled when on the field. His sluggish pass coverage is a constant source of frustration and the effort just doesn’t seem to be there either with the campaign winding down in a cataclysmic fashion.

After another inept performance at the New Orleans Saints where he gave up yet another sack, Miller’s nonchalant response to questions surrounding his own performance did not go down well with a fanbase that’s getting pretty sick and tired of such a blase attitude from those responsible for protecting the quarterback.

Miller is mercifully out of contract this offseason and shouldn’t return.

The former third-round pick out of Louisville has given up seven sacks and three penalties from 656 snaps this season en route to a lowly 52.0 grade from Pro Football Focus. Miller’s days with the Panthers are numbered and the coaching staff should use their season finale to get a better look at others with more in the way of promise.
