Phil Snow – Carolina Panthers DC

This would be an absolute bombshell if it came to fruition and a major blow to head coach Matt Rhule. However, with Phil Snow not getting any younger and firmly in the twilight of his coaching career, riding off into the sunset is not entirely out of the question.

Snow is a football man and a fierce Rhule loyalist from their time together in college. Retiring when the former Baylor man needs him most would be out of character – but this situation would obviously change if Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper ended up starting afresh after a troubling campaign.

The defensive coordinator deserves a lot of credit for the way he’s improved this unit in 2021. Carolina is still among the league’s best in many statistical categories and for all their problems gaining results, most complications aren’t transpiring on defense.

Looking at the biggest picture at 67 years old might be an option for Snow this offseason despite his fierce passion for the game showing no signs of slipping. If Rhule and the Panthers part ways, his retirement might become even more of a possibility.

A head coach obviously comes with fresh faces at the coordinator positions. Snow’s work this season deserves an enormous amount of credit, but the chances of a new arrival keeping him around are slim.
