Carolina Panthers should consider replacing Matt Rhule

Ah yes. The one action item many have been requesting and speculating on for weeks.

There are have been reports that team owner David Tepper is embarrassed he gave Matt Rhule a seven-year, $62 million contract to secure his services leading the Carolina Panthers, tempting him from the college ranks and outbidding the New York Giants.

We are only two years in. But the proof on the field, during interviews, and the win/loss column show Rhule’s collegiate success has not translated well into the professional ranks.

A 10-22 record, which could easily be 10-23 after Sunday, is a far cry from even mediocrity. You can blame injuries, quarterback issues, or a variety of other factors – yet the Panthers seem to be taking two steps back for each step forward.

Rhule has touted this process he believes is working, even though others may not notice. He is the only one on the train here judging by recent comments from analysts, media members, and Carolina’s loyal fanbase.

There are plenty of solid candidates ready to take the helm of a team this offseason. Whether Rhule should be a casualty of Black Monday will come down to how owner David Tepper perceives things are going.

Don’t feel too bad if this eventuality occurs. Rhule has a large buyout meaning he will be financially secure.
