Jameis Winston

Watching the New Orleans Saints with Jameis Winston this season as opposed to without him is jarring. The former No. 1 overall selection had a great start before suffering a season-ending injury and looked to be a franchise quarterback.

Perhaps learning behind Drew Brees or having to watch Tom Brady take over his starting job on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers finally made some home truths hit home. There is no denying Winston is an elite passer – the numbers do not lie – and they clearly show he is one of the most electrifying number generators over the last five years.

What they also tell you is that Winston has turned the ball over like no other quarterback in the league. It is what fittingly ended his final game and his time with the Bucs.

Since that time Winston has acquired valuable knowledge from Brees and been able to learn from his mistakes.

Winston played well in the Saints offense that has looked anemic without him. If the Florida State product opts not to return and needs a one-year prove-it deal, the Carolina Panthers seem like a great fit with the talent currently at their disposal.
