Ikem Ekwonu scouting report
- Position: OL
- Height: 6-foot-4
- Weight: 320 pounds
The Athletic recently called Ikem Ekwonu the most feared lineman in the ACC. Judging by the film he’s accumulated throughout his time at North Carolina State, it’s not hard to see why.
Ekwonu has all the measurables needed to be a success at the next level. He is strong, fast, and mobile in equal measure – something that makes him a supreme force when it comes to either run blocking or in pass protection.
One thing that really stands out where Ekwonu is concerned is the prospect’s explosiveness to the point of attack. His wrestling background in high school comes in handy and makes any oncoming edge rusher’s life extremely difficult once those devastating hands hit.
Footwork is another area of Ekwonu’s game that excels. The lineman also has no trouble getting out on the move and assisting on the edge or at the second level should the opportunity arise.
Ekwonu’s attitude on and off the field is first-class, playing the game with supreme effort and aggressiveness that is sure to go down well with NFL scouts across the country.
If there was one slight on Ekwonu as a left tackle, it’s dealing better with inside rushing moves. He also has a slight tendency to not finish blocks due to his eagerness in helping out others.
That being said, one can only pick slight holes in Ekwonu’s game. He enters the NFL as someone that could start immediately either on the edge or as a guard with Pro Bowl potential.
And that should be music to the ears of the Carolina Panthers.
