Robby Anderson – Carolina Panthers WR

  • 2022 cap hit – $16.83 million

Although Robby Anderson failed to reach the heights of 2020, it’s far too early to be giving up on the wide receiver just yet. The Carolina Panthers signed the former Temple standout to an extension before competitive action began, but chemistry issues with Sam Darnold meant his output decreased by almost half in terms of yards gained and these frustrations threatened to boil over on more than one occasion.

Anderson has proven capable of making a significant difference. But if Darnold is under center once again in 2021, the same problems could potentially emerge.

That’s something to keep a close eye on next season. But if the Panthers want to strengthen their options on offense, then coming to a restructured agreement with Anderson to lower his $16.83 million cap hit should be high on their agenda.

Anderson has been vocal about his desire to attain postseason football sooner rather than later. Putting the team first with this sort of move gives him the best possible chance.

There was talk of Anderson potentially being trade bait this offseason. But after a campaign of regression, the Panthers would be wise to ride it out with the receiver and hope he can get back to the form of old.
