Stars could follow Sean Payton out the door

Not only is Sean Payton walking away from the New Orleans Saints, but his departure could also lead to some top stars thinking twice about where their respective futures lie. As stated previously, the organization is in the midst of some substantial cap worries and veteran players used to contending are likely to consider their options rather than stick around for a rebuild.

This is something that could benefit the Carolina Panthers. The Saints remain a talented group of players, but with a new coach comes different ideas and even if one of their current staff is promoted into the role, it’s hard to envisage a situation where major changes in personnel take place.

Matt Rhule is feeling the heat this offseason, there’s no getting away from that. And another poor start could see the Panthers themselves on the lookout for a different head coach of their own in 2023.

However, if there was ever a time to seize a potential opportunity, it’s now.

Leading performers such as Terron Armstead and Marcus Willims could decide to take their chances elsewhere unless they are tagged, which seems unlikely given New Orleans’ current financial constraints. Other veteran pieces will surely be released ahead of time to get the Saints complying with the NFL regulations.

This has nothing to do with the Panthers’ roster-building attempts, obviously. But an under-strength Saints with a new head coach won’t exactly hurt their chances, either.
