4 pros and cons to the Carolina Panthers drafting Malik Willis in 2022

Carolina Panthers have another huge need
With no second or third-round picks in the 2022 NFL Draft currently, the Carolina Panthers have a huge decision to make at No. 6 overall. Trading down remains a realistic option providing there is sufficient interest from elsewhere, but there is also the prospect of taking an elite player that could make an instant impact.
Obviously, strengthening the quarterback position is a big need. But it doesn’t matter who is under center if the Panthers don’t secure the right reinforcements across their offensive line this offseason.
It’s a position that has been ignored by Carolina for far too long. General manager Scott Fitterer and head coach Matt Rhule stated this will be their highest priority during the offseason and if the right men aren’t found in free agency, then landing a supreme protector in the draft is an absolute necessity.
This could make them look the other way when it comes to Malik Willis, who is considered more like a quarterback with upside rather than a generational talent such as Trevor Lawrence. Rhule needs all the help he can get right now and he’ll be hoping an improved line can also bring about more consistency where Sam Darnold is concerned.
Willis could end up being a stud. But the simple fact is Carolina has a more pressing need and one they must address as a matter of urgency.
