6 prospects on defense the Panthers should watch at 2022 Senior Bowl
By Dean Jones
Quay Walker – LB (Georgia)
As stated previously, the Carolina Panthers could use this offseason to put a long-term plan in place regarding Luke Kuechly’s successor. The two players they’ve tried just haven’t gone according to plan, so addressing this need relatively early in the draft would be beneficial providing the right reinforcements are found on the offensive line in free agency or in the first round.
If this is an avenue the Panthers want to explore, then it might be worth those in attendance to keep an eye on Quay Walker’s impact during Senior Bowl week. The linebacker is riding on the crest of a wave after helping Georgia secure a National Championship in convincing fashion, with the defense coming in for some significant praise throughout the campaign.
Walker wouldn’t be classed as having elite speed by any stretch, but the prospect is physical, can rush the passer in dominant fashion, and boasts the agility to move smoothly when it comes to reacting to how a play is developing.
Although Walker’s acceleration is top-notch, there is a rigidness that hampers him at times and the second-level presence also needs to improve in terms of vision.
Walker is currently projected to go anywhere from Rounds 3-5. A strong Senior Bowl might alter this considerably when it’s all said and done.
