Jermaine Johnson II – DE (Florida State)

Another prospect that ended his college career on a high note at just the right time is Jermaine Johnson II. The edge rusher is the latest in a long line of Florida State products set to shine at the next level, something the Carolina Panthers have taken advantage of in the past by taking Brian Burns at No. 16 overall in 2019.

While Johnson doesn’t have the elite explosiveness of Burns, his 11.5 sacks and 17.5 tackles for loss with the Seminoles in 2021 indicate he is a prospect of some immense potential that can enhance his growing stock further during Senior Bowl week.

Johnson converted from a stand-up linebacker to a defensive end for his final college season with impressive results. Although there appears some debate surrounding where he’s best suited at the next level.

His physicality at the point of attack is matched by speed off the edge and an ability to hold his position against strong tackles on running downs. Johnson boasts a versatile pass-rushing set and also has the frame to be used as a potential three-technique should the opportunity arise.

Inexperience at the defensive end spot is a concern. Johnson also needs to stop missing so many tackles to truly realize his potential. If he can rid this from his game, then someone is going to have a real player on their hands.
