5 Carolina Panthers facing a make-or-break situation in 2022

C.J. Henderson – Carolina Panthers CB
One of the more eye-catching moves made by the Carolina Panthers during the 2021 season was acquiring cornerback C.J. Henderson via trade from the Jacksonville Jaguars. The former first-round pick is undeniably talented based on his college career at Florida, but things just haven’t come together for the player at the next level so far.
This was seen as a trade with the long-term in mind, costing the Panthers a third-round pick and tight end Dan Arnold in exchange for Henderson and a fifth-rounder. Carolina took their time with the player, but his production overall makes it difficult to fathom whether this was the correct call to make or not.
That’s why Henderson faces a crucial third season in a professional environment. He needs to be fully focused on developing this offseason and there could be a chance for additional playing time if either Stephon Gilmore or Donte Jackson decide to take their chances elsewhere.
From a physical standpoint, Henderson has it all. The big problem has reportedly been a lack of desire and there are clearly concentration issues in coverage that need to be addressed.
If Henderson can make significant strides in the coming weeks, then the Panthers will benefit enormously. However, the jury is still out as to whether or not he is capable of such improvements until he demonstrates otherwise.
