Brian Burns – Carolina Panthers DE

As previously stated, the Carolina Panthers don’t have much in the way of playing assets that would interest other teams. The talent level is not where it needs to be across the roster right now, with some on big contracts that further complicates their potential pursuit of a true franchise quarterback.

One suspects that Brian Burns‘ name would come up during any negotiations. The defensive end is currently in Las Vegas for his first Pro Bowl after gaining nine sacks in 2021, which was another sign of progression but not what many anticipated before the campaign.

Expectations were through the roof for Burns before the season. Many projected the Florida State product to take a significant leap into the elite category and although this didn’t materialize, there’s nothing to suggest he isn’t capable of reaching such heights in the coming years.

The Panthers have a big upcoming decision to make regarding Burns, who is entering Year 4 and is likely to have his fifth-year option picked up when the time comes. Another season of exceptional numbers will see his contract demands soar to incredible levels, which is something that has to be considered in the grand scheme of things.

Finding consistent pass-rushers is not easy. Burns’ explosiveness is even rarer and even though it’s pretty tempting if a quarterback becomes available, the Panthers should continue moving forward with the former first-round pick as a core foundation on its roster.

But if fans think team owner David Tepper is not thinking about something like this, then I don’t know what to tell you.
