5 best free agent signings in Carolina Panthers history

Wesley Walls – Former Carolina Panthers TE
The Carolina Panthers have had a lot of success when it comes to finding a franchise tight end. Before making arguably the best trade in franchise history for Greg Olsen in 2011, the organization signed former New Orleans Saints star and Super Bowl champion, Wesley Walls in 1996.
Walls showed promise in New Orleans but made his career with the Panthers. He hit the ground running in no uncertain terms, providing a level of consistency that became a revelation for a team looking to make their way in the NFL.
In seven seasons with the team, Walls was named an All-Pro four times and totaled 3,902 receiving yards and 44 touchdowns. His receiving yards rank fifth in team history and second for a tight end behind Olsen, with his scores coming in third all-time just behind Steve Smith Sr. and Muhsin Muhammad.
In 2019, Walls was inducted into Carolina’s Hall of Honor and remains a fan favorite to this day.
With the Panthers unable to find their next great tight end since Olsen signed for the Seattle Seahawks, it would be huge if they could find another free agent addition with the impact Walls had.
