Panthers 7-round 2022 NFL mock draft: Post-Senior Bowl edition
By Dean Jones
Carolina Panthers select Cole Strange – C (Tennessee-Chattanooga)
Pat Elflein is under contract next season after the Carolina Panthers handed him a two-year deal on Day 1 of free agency. His production improved upon moving to the center position when Matt Paradis got injured in Week 9 against the New England Patriots, but it is still debatable as to whether he’ll fill a starting spot in 2022.
If the Panthers decide to move forward with Elflein, then it might be worth those in power bringing in a young prospect that could have starting potential with additional refinements. One such player really caught the eye throughout Senior Bowl week, with Cole Strange making himself some money with an outstanding display.
Strange might not be the biggest offensive lineman to enter the league, but he is technically sound and plays much heftier than his frame suggests. Even though the standard of opposition at Tennessee-Chattanooga was the best in college football, it should not detract from what the player could potentially bring in the pro ranks.
This might not be an immediate fix. However, if Elflein performs better with some upgrades around him, Strange can develop at his own pace and potentially get some reps on the rotation later in the campaign.
There is some definite buzz building about Strange. Something that should have more than a few offensive line-needy teams on red alert.
