Panthers 7-round 2022 NFL mock draft: Post-Senior Bowl edition
By Dean Jones
Carolina Panthers select Zander Horvath – RB/FB (Purdue)
Adding a power running back would be wise of the Carolina Panthers given how Christian McCaffrey cannot stay healthy. Chuba Hubbard doesn’t really have the physique for such a task and his struggles gaining yards after first contact as a rookie were there for all to see.
These types of players are always available in free agency given how disposable running backs are league-wide. But perhaps a cheaper option would be finding one via the draft and Zander Horvath has the type of skills the Panthers need in this area of the field.
Horvath is an absolute monster who can operate either at full-back or carrying out of the backfield. There is a major injury red flag that needs investigating during the evaluation procedures, but providing everything checks out then this might be a low-risk move that pays off in a big way.
Nobody is really talking about Horvath, and that could lead to someone getting a real steal providing he makes a smooth transition to the professional ranks. Carolina needs a player that can bang between the tackles and take the heat off McCaffrey, which might just preserve the All-Pro’s health along the way.
This would be a win-win for all parties. And the Panthers fanbase will no doubt fall in love with Horvath thanks to his aggressive style of play.
