Carolina Panthers could target Cam Robinson – OT
Another lackluster and turbulent season for the Jacksonville Jaguars has them picking at No. 1 overall for the second straight year. This enabled the team to select quarterback Trevor Lawrence in 2021 and they should focus their attention on finding an elite prospect such as Evan Neal or Ikem Ekwonu that can keep the signal-caller upright this time around.
Should the Jaguars go down this route, then it’s unlikely they’ll pay current left tackle Cam Robinson after he played the previous campaign on the franchise tag.
There was absolutely nothing wrong with his production. But with a new regime coming into the fold it appears doubtful they’ll make a long-term commitment when a cheaper – and better – option could be available with the first pick in the draft.
This should put the Carolina Panthers and others across the league on red alert. It’s been a constant revolving door on the blindside in recent years, with the franchise never quite securing a long-term option at the position since the days of Jordan Gross.
Robinson gave up just one sack and conceded five penalties from 856 snaps in 2021 to secure a respectable 67.1 grade from Pro Football Focus. Anything like this sort of form in Carolina would represent a substantial upgrade.
Whether Robinson would be out of the Panthers’ price range remains to be seen. But it’s a call that should be made, at the very least.
