New Carolina Panthers coaches must succeed

When Matt Rhule was hired by the Carolina Panthers, he put an awful lot of trust in coaches who worked with him at the college level and didn’t have much experience in the NFL.

Rhule’s biggest assistant coach splash was hiring LSU’s passing game coordinator Joe Brady, who was extremely young at 30-years-old. Despite the promise, he took the fall for Carolina’s bad offense and was fired midseason last year.

This offseason, Rhule’s coaching staff isn’t complete just yet. But former New York Giants head coach Ben McAdoo will be the biggest key to the former Baylor man’s tenure with the Panthers.

McAdoo was hired as Rhule’s new offensive coordinator and if he fails to get this offense back on track, the head coach will be firmly on the chopping block.

In addition to McAdoo, Rhule’s new special teams’ coordinator Chris Tabor and offensive line coach James Campen have to make major improvements at their position groups.

Former Panthers defensive coordinator and Arizona Cardinals head coach Steve Wilks is also returning as the new secondary coach, which is a good hire. That puts even more of the blame on Rhule if things go wrong.
