5 things Carolina Panthers HC Matt Rhule must get right to save his job

Matt Rhule must take accountability when things get tough
If you’ve watched any Matt Rhule press conferences in the past two years, you’ll notice that he gets shaken up pretty easily when things aren’t going well. From the Cam Newton debacle to picking up Sam Darnold’s fifth-year option, the head coach sometimes just doesn’t know how to answer questions, rambles and tries to shift blame.
Now, to be fair, Rhule has taken some of the heat this offseason in interviews, but he is already in bad standing with fans. Especially after seemingly throwing Newton under the bus after a game last year.
When the offense plays poorly, he blames the defense. When the quarterback struggles, he’ll blame the offensive line.
While he’s not wrong, sometimes you have to take the blame to keep the respect from the locker room and also the fans.
Compared to a large market like New York, Rhule doesn’t get nearly as many tough questions from the media. So the fact that he’s fallen under pressure during losing streaks doesn’t look great.
Rhule might not have many more tough times that are acceptable. If he does, shifting the blame doesn’t do anything but make him look worse.
