Ikem Ekwonu could help Sam Darnold

This will become an ongoing theme because it needs to be. General manager Scott Fitterer and head coach Matt Rhule stated that a complete rejuvenation of the offensive line is needed this offseason and with not much money to splash in free agency, going down the draft route is a likely option at a fraction of the cost.

The Carolina Panthers could find themselves a top college talent at No. 6 overall. Something that would undoubtedly be a major boost to Sam Darnold as he prepares to enter the last chance saloon regarding his future with the team and his NFL career overall.

If Ikem Ekwonu is still around by the time Carolina is on the clock, one suspects they would have a hard time passing on such a prospect. The North Carolina State product has every physical tool imaginable to continue his college success at the next level, with the player’s versatility another element that the Panthers have sought during their recruitment process since Rhule took charge.

It’s hard not to love the way Ekwonu goes about his business. He approaches every snap with a ruthless mentality, completely dominating almost everyone that was unfortunate to stand in his path thanks to a unique blend of size, length, physicality, and mobility.

Ekwonu has devastating hands at the point of attack. This is matched by exceptional footwork that allows him to cope with speedier edge rushers, which could see him become a top-three selection once the evaluation process comes to a conclusion.

It would be a huge surprise if Ekwonu is still around by No. 6. If he does fall this far, then the Panthers should not take too long handing in their card.
