Panthers 7-round 2022 NFL mock draft: Trench warfare edition
By Dean Jones
Carolina Panthers select Haskell Garrett at No. 197
As stated previously, if DaQuan Jones leaves in free agency then the Carolina Panthers have to address the defensive tackle position at some stage this offseason. Although there remains some real hope that Daviyon Nixon can emerge as a starting-caliber player after flashing true potential before his rookie campaign was cut short due to injury.
If the Panthers opt to wait until the later rounds of the 2022 NFL Draft to find another exciting recruit from the college ranks, then Haskell Garrett is a player that could enter the equation.
The former Ohio State standout was one of the top performers throughout Senior Bowl week, demonstrating high quality in team drills and during the game itself that won’t have gone unnoticed by NFL scouts up and down the country.
One thing that really stands out where Garrett is concerned would be tackling, which is strong and often with extreme conviction. He also boasts quality athleticism for a man his size, enabling him to shift direction quickly and move laterally to the point of attack with minimal fuss.
If Garrett can improve his hand placement and react a little quicker from a technical standpoint, then there is every chance he can go on to have a productive NFL career in the right fit. This is something the Panthers could provide given how much young talent they have on their defensive front.
