Carolina Panthers could target Ikem Ekwonu

Perhaps the most obvious prospect that comes to mind is Ikem Ekwonu. The former North Carolina State standout is a phenomenal athlete that would be an instant upgrade to anything the Carolina Panthers churned out at left tackle last season, but whether he’ll still be around at No. 6 overall is up for serious debate.

There aren’t much better than Ekwonu entering the league this year. His unique blend of size, power, and speed make him a real force to be reckoned with – skills that should make a very smooth transition to the professional ranks.

Ekwonu is equally adept at protecting the passer as he is in run support. He also has absolutely no trouble getting out on the move and helping in motion or at the second level to great effect.

The Panthers need a substantial makeover on their offensive line in the coming weeks. Only Taylor Moton emerged from the 2021 season with any sort of credit and unless this changes, it won’t matter who Carolina chooses as their man under center.

If the Panthers were fortunate enough to see Ekwonu fall out of the top-five and into their laps, one suspects they would have a hard time not handing in their card at the earliest possible opportunity. This is a Day 1 NFL starter with Pro Bowl potential – something Carolina hasn’t had since the days of Jordan Gross.
