7 prospects on defense for Panthers to watch at 2022 Scouting Combine
By Dean Jones
Carolina Panthers should watch Devonte Wyatt
Georgia’s defense in 2021 was loaded with NFL talent. This played a leading role in the Bulldogs’ national championship success and should see plenty of interest in those prospects who’ll be entering the NFL this year.
A number of these are expected to be taken in the first three rounds of the 2022 NFL Draft. The Carolina Panthers only have one pick in the top-100 as it stands, but that could all change if general manager Scott Fitterer can work his magic in the trade market before or during the selection process.
Devonte Wyatt saw his stock rise more than most last season. The defensive tackle is a little better proportioned than his former teammate Jordan Davis, which could mean his longevity will be greater at the next level.
One thing that immediately stands out when examining Wyatt is his work rate. He is an absolute menace on the interior who can be equally as effective against the run or when it comes to generating pressure on the opposing quarterback.
The numbers only tell half the story where Wyatt is concerned. He commands respect and attention, boasting the versatility to play anywhere across the defensive line for good measure.
Arm length is a worry for Wyatt, which could make him susceptible to double-teams. However, there is a lot to like about his potential and he will be a prospect to monitor at the 2022 NFL Scouting Combine.
