Carolina Panthers 7-round 2022 NFL mock draft: Pre-Combine edition
By Dean Jones
Carolina Panthers select Skyy Moore
Considering how much expectancy there was on the prominent pass-catchers last season, it was a major letdown. Christian McCaffrey turning out just seven times didn’t help, but only D.J. Moore can look back on his achievements with a sense of pride as other wideouts on the depth chart failed to have the desired effect on proceedings throughout the campaign.
Perhaps Robby Anderson, Terrace Marshall Jr., and Shi Smith can make a better go of things in offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo’s scheme. But finding a mid-round wide receiver that could gradually become a force wouldn’t hurt in the slightest.
This is where Skyy Moore comes in. The Western Michigan product was among college football’s most dynamic playmakers in 2021 and comes into the league with an enticing skill set that could make a difference right out of the gate.
Moore might not have top-end speed, but he is explosive and has NFL-ready ball skills that make him a significant threat on any given down. The prospect also comes with elite footwork which often leaves defenders trailing in his wake, which is exactly what the Panthers need based on their putrid efforts in the passing game last season.
There is a good chance Moore could be taken higher than this once his skills are showcased to scouts and key personnel at the NFL Scouting Combine. But if he is still around by this point, Carolina should not hesitate to hand in their card.
