Carolina Panthers 7-round 2022 NFL mock draft: Pre-Combine edition
By Dean Jones
Carolina Panthers select ZaQuandre White
Christian McCaffrey’s injury problems are becoming a real problem. The Carolina Panthers had their best offensive weapon on the field for seven games last season and just 10 times over the last two years, so a complete approach is needed to keep the All-Pro fit and firing on all cylinders.
The best way for the Panthers to do this is by altering McCaffrey’s approach to a game day week and taking some pressure off his shoulders. Chuba Hubbard did flash and the out-of-contract Ameer Abdullah was a threat in the passing game, but another body might be beneficial to provide rest for the Stanford and pick up the slack if he’s forced to miss time again.
ZaQuandre White is a bruising runner that is diffiult to bring down with early momentum. Although the South Carolina prospect isn’t an explosive figure, he could be worth a look as someone that can gain hard yards in between the tackles.
White needs a lower center of gravity to make his physicality count at the next level. He will also need to put in some substantial work when it comes to pass blocking, which was suspect during his time with the Gamecocks.
Matt Rhule has shown a preference for taking players from the program over his first two years at the helm. White is a gamble, but there could be something there with a smooth adjustment.
