5 Carolina Panthers legends that still need replacing in 2022

Jordan Gross – Former Carolina Panthers OT
It’s been eight seasons since Jordan Gross last played an NFL down. One could make an argumant that the Carolina Panthers have not had a consistent presence at left tackle since the All-Pro decided to walk away from the gridiron.
There have been some who offered promise. But long-term stability is absolutely key on the blindside and the Panthers need to resolve this ongoing issue to give whoever is under center half a chance of making the correct reads.
Gross was a rare breed. An elite pass protector who led by example and became an instant fan favorite due to outstanding production and the way he approached almost every down.
Carolina gambled on Cam Erving in 2021, signing the former first-round pick within hours of free agency getting underway. He couldn’t turn things around and even though Brady Christensen did show promise, just where the Panthers see him long-term has yet to be determined.
Fortunately for Carolina, they have the No. 6 overall selection this spring. This could mean someone like Charles Cross or Ikem Ekwonu falls into their laps, which would be a substantial upgrade on anything they’ve churned out at the position recently.
Eight years is a long time to be without a franchise left tackle. If the Panthers had any sense, they will finally secure an heir to Gross’ throne before the 2022 campaign.
